Little Yellow Bird make truly sustainable textiles into circular clothing
Little Yellow Bird are an award-winning sustainable textile company based in Wellington, New Zealand. With ethical values and a planet first mindset baked in from the very start, the company has grown from beginnings in making better uniforms, to providing a fully circular lifecycle for cottons of all kinds.
As part of their commitment to transparency LYB publish an impact report each year documenting the efforts and outcomes the organisation has undertaken to support workers and ensure a traceable supply chain. This is an opportunity to speak the values of the company and showcase the brand not only in a visual way but through actions as well.
Keep it cool, tell the stories
Hearkening back to my roots in graphic design, it was a joy to make put together a document that not only looked great but was also telling a much more interesting story than the average annual report or promotional brochure.
Using a great brand to talk about the sustainability impacts the business has made on the planet was something to treat with care but also passion. I made sure to balance the tone of the document between the fairly casual retail presence and a more professional corporate look.
Utilising bold colour blocking and heroic full bleed images matched with a relaxed, unhurried layout gave the content space to breathe. Married with a strong typographic element in lieu of any non photographic visual elements, the document has a timeless quality that puts stories at the fore and supports them with an unassuming but empowering visual design.
